“We
got a chance to be a part of GeoKrishi training which helped us to learn new
skills and technology in the agriculture field. Additionally, GeoKrishi
provides us a golden opportunity so that we can directly interact with the
farmers by transferring our learning to them. I think the GeoKrishi app will
help farmers with best management practices as many of them were following
traditional practices. So, we can consider GeoKrishi as Farmer's friends as
well as students like us as it many of our subject content in a simple word
which will easy to understand” shared Sarita Tharu with a big smile on her
face.
GeoKrishi
is a digital agriculture advisory service that provides farmers with the best
management practices of crops and livestock through the GeoKrishi Farm app.
Additionally, farmers can get the information related to the market price of
commodities, weather forecast of the own district, fertilizer calculators,
farmers diaries that help keep records of cost and expenses during the
production period, and auto-notification which can be received after the crop
registration by the farmers. Farmers can also consult their crop-related
problems with Experts through the GeoKrishi farm app.
Besides
regular activities, GeoKrishi has provided orientation sessions to the
agriculture students of the 9-12 class of Shree Laxmi Secondary School at
Kohalpur-02, Banke. Mr. Bishal Pandey (Senior Agriculture instructor) of the
same school has been taken the initiative to reach out to core farmers as he
believes that GeoKrishi has a lot of benefits and services to those farmers. After
the training, he explored all the GeoKrishi farm app features and did some
research at the local level to find out the farmer’s needs and the possibility
of adoption rate in the farmers’ community. In the end, he has decided to
mobilize his students to enroll more farmers on the GeoKrishi farm app. He with
his team of students were mobilized at the field of Kohalpur and Baijanath area
and started to train the wheat farmers as listed provided by CIMMYT.
Aruna Rana testified such kinds of activities boosted her confidence
level as she has learned a lot of new things, and technology while she is still
studying. Similarly, Anand Kathayat shared that, many of the farmers of their
locality were not able to get the information related to the crops and
livestock at right time so GeoKrishi could play a vital role to provide the
agriculture advisory to such farmers. He added that the students felt very
lucky to be a part of such an initiative and they believed that a small piece
of advice/information can minimize the production loss. “Farmers were so
happy and overwhelmed with the activity as their queries of Crops and livestock
were solved by staying at home.” shared the rest of the students.
Within a week of an interval, the students have connected more than 105 farmers
in the GeoKrishi Farm app but their work was halted due to the rapid increase
in the COVID cases in their locality. They promised to continue as the
situation goes normal.
